Abstract

Choledocholithiasis is a frequent cause of biliary obstruction; its ultrasonographic appearance has been well described. Familiarity with other causes of echogenic foci in the common duct will help prevent sonographic false-positive diagnoses of Choledocholithiasis. In patients who have had surgery or biliary manipulation, radiographic examination of the kidney, ureter, and bladder is helpful.

Key Words: Choledocholithiasis • biliary obstruction
